Wikipedia Definition of Blogs
Wikipedia.Com
A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.
Why Blogs?
A weblog (blog) is an easy-to-use, online journal in which you and your students can publish thoughts and ideas, get feedback, share information, and interact with others. Blogging is an exciting way to facilitate on-going discussions, critique student work, and promote online learning. This session will provide you with varied examples of blogs and information on how to create a blog.
Educators have been slower to adopt Weblogs for a variety of reasons, among them access, privacy, and security issues. But as more and more people get on the blog bandwagon, more and more teachers and schools are starting to experiment with the technology as a way to communicate with students and parents, archive and publish student work, learn with far-flung collaborators, and "manage" the knowledge that members of the school community create. In fact, many are seeing Weblogs as a cheaper alternative to course management systems.
